SHES 3303's wiki

Well, I dont really blog. However, in this course, SHES 3303 - Multimedia Authoring, we're supposed to keep a log/day-to-day progress in our page (termed wiki in adec website). As the wiki page is only viewable to our group members and not to other users not in the group, I decided to post it up in here as well so that when my sem ends, it wouldnt just be erased like that. So, here it is:

21/7/09

We begin by getting to know our group members and straight proceed to discuss our topics of interest. We jot down a whole lot of list which we shall then decide later. Next, we tried to pin-point out the roles that best fit us. It was the very obvious roles such as audio, video, graphic etc. From the lecture notes, we realised that there are more complicated roles such as Multimedia Programmer, Interface Designer, Multimedia Designer etc. From there on, we reshuffle our roles again.

12/8/09

Through our group's discussion in this moodle, we decided on the title "Wildlife Conservation and Endangered Species." We submitted our mind chart however was rejected due to lacking of more controversial issues. Thus, we amended ours to "Wildlife: Are they worth protecting?" thanks to few hints given by Prof Dr Halim himself. We brainstorm for the whole lab session trying to figure out controversial questions to redo our mind map again and it was a success =)

25/8/09

Today is the first time we used the Makmal DG4 for our flash session without the supervision of Prof Halim. We learnt Motion Tween, Shape Tween, and Classic Tween by our very patient tutor, Ms Aida (thank you very much!), who repeated time and again for a bunch of clueless people like us, haha! It was a revolutionary experience as for the 1st time we were creating small, trivial miracles with the computer other than playing computer games XD Hopefully with this exposure, we would continue to find the passion to dig deeper and understand better flash so that we'll make full use of this course.

1/9/09

Can be considered our 2nd lesson learning Flash formally in this course at DG 4 but this time under the supervision of both Prof Halim and Ms Aida. Ms Aida again thought us more about Flash but this time around, it's about the buttons. Looks simple but once again we were mesmerised by the 'simplicity' of it. Flash really is something magical to those who do not know about it. Seems impossible and high tech, but in reality, it's rather simple. Prof Halim once again reminded us to spent at least few hours in a week or two to indulge in Flash so as to make fulll use of this versatile program.

8/9/09

Today, Prof Halim showed us examples of projects done by our seniors. We were rather impressed with their masterpieces and 'stole' some idea to put into our final project =P Prof continued to advise us due to our slow progress =( We'll defnitely heed the advices given and try to produce a better storyboard for our final year product. We were told to gather in groups so that we do know our next course of action and not to further delay matters than they already are.

15/9/09

We presented our incomplete storyboard and the frame-to-frame task that was given to us last week to our tutor, Miss Aida. She wasnt the most amused person, of which we know there are more that we should do to improve on our project. Prof Halim allows us to work independently but fruitfully by maximising our knowledge in flash by at least completing something today. I plan to complete the whole tutorial video that Prof Halim borrowed us earlier in the semester. It's a step-by-step video tutorial about CS3 and I hope that I can catch up with the many miraculous functions of Flash CS4. Wish me luck! =)

29/9/09

We gathered everyone in our gorup today to catch up with each other's progress and Im very deilighted to see that we are on the right track *big toothy smile* Im very confident that we can complete it in time and meet the dateline, bearing in mind that there are less than 4 weeks left to go. We approached Prof Halim regarding the use of the Virtual Reality (V.R) tripod to produce a 360 degrees panoramic picture of our group. Cherlene will be leading the VR production and we'll be doing it next week during lab time. Details of which Cherlene will put it up in our moodle soon.

6/10/09

Today, Muna will be conducting the voice over for our video segments. She will be shooting another personal video with a chosen lecturer on relevant questions pertaining to our topic. She'll post it up in moodle soon. As at 1500 hours later, we'll be heading to the IPS to borrow Prof Halim's VR tripod to shoot our group 360 degrees picture and Cherlene planned to complete the whole stitching and panorama picture at 12th college itself after we're done with the shoots. Miss Aida dropped by and said that she wants to see our group's progress thus far and is hoping much more than what we showed her earlier. 1 good news, and 1 bad news. The bad news is, we're running out of time, our days are numbered *sob* ... the good news is, we're on schedule XD haha!

13/10/09

As of today, Muna told us that we'll be interviewing Prof Madya Dr Rosli Hashim on the 19/10 as it is part of the 'must have' in our project, that is to produce a custom made video. Thanks very much to Muna as she managed to book a slot with Prof Rosli and she'll also be handling the camera for recording purposes and she even prepared the questions! The rest of us continued with our assigned task. 10 days left ...

19/10/09

The scheduled time for the interview was supposed to be at 11am, after our Physiology class that ends at 10.50am. However, Prof Rosli is on his way back from Putrajaya from an early morning conference. Thus, it was delayed till around 11.30am. We were very grateful to Prof Rosli that despite his hectic schedule, he's still very warm and welcoming when we entered his office situated in ISB. We proceed as scheduled and the whole recording turn out fine with Prof Rosli expressing his professional opinions based on the set of questions Muna had prepared. Thanks Muna for everything =) You're the star for today!! 5 days left ...

20/10/09

We met in the lab to compile everything that we have. Muna did a great job on the video and now she proceeds to help out with the Quiz section. Cherlene on the other hand is struggling to make the best VR she could, poor thing, she looked very sleepy. She said she slept at 5am trying to create the flash for it. Hm, not to be outdone, I'm finally done with all the informations needed for our flash. The introduction, subtopics+examples of animals (with videos), and conclusion. Basically, whatever information is needed is done! Now I shall proceed with the documentation of our project. Prof Halim said he dont mind us handing it over even after the study week but Im determined to settle every last bit of it before then. Everyone's working very hard. 4 days left ...

22/10/09 - 23/10/09

A day before the presentation day which was fixed on Friday (23/10) at 0800 at DK Teratai. After our last class ended at 11am, we camped at DG4 to try and rush things to continue doing whatever left we could. All of us stayed from 11am up till around 6.30pm when the Master's students start to come in to use DG4. Then, the girls went for their solat and Cherlene and I, stayed outside DG4 to continue with our work. Cherlene somehow managed to get the aid of a senior (now a Master's student) and we continue working till around 8.30pm. Then, we proceed to (again) camp at 3rd Residential College's Dewan Makan to prepare for our presentation. I didnt knew it would take us the whole day to finalise our project just for the presentation purpose. I mean there weren't much to complete, just that, things like trying to link 2 pages together really consumes much time. Adui~ There were also problems trying to connect Cherlene's VR to others as we only found out last minute, that her's was in the action script 2.0 whilst ours is using the action script 3.0! Much to my suprise, other groups too didnt bother using action script 3.0 other than us, perhaps, the coding for action script 3.0 is not easily found from other resources as they are still very new. Many other newly found problems other than this. We continue with our project till the wee hours of the morning and we were on the verge of completing everything when suddenly, at 0600 hours, Fatihah's flash couldnt debug! We tried everything, from my laptop to hers, to Cherlene's. We just dont know why. Everything was saved but we just couldnt open it. Finally, Fatihah found the problem and it was almost 0700 hours already. We knew we could not give the most perfect of flash but at least everything's running smoothly. We could not link the VR and quiz to the flash, but in separate folders, they function optimally. So, we decided to go with what we have and tell Prof beforehand that we are facing these few problems. Prof did mentioned that it's ok not to have the perfect flash during presentation, lucky us! Hanifa came down around 0710 to help us with the VR, thank you very much Hanifa! So, we rushed everything, from breakfast to bath to DK Teratai. No one had any sleep from 0800 hours till the next morning. When everyone had done presenting, it was then 1000 hours. Total number of sleep = -22 hours! I was the chair person and also the group leader. Though not much preparation, we did farely well. It was a very tiring day. I told everyone to get as much rest as possible as we'll be meeting up again tomorrow to overcome every possible problem before some go back for their study week. Good job everyone ...

24/10/09 - 25/10/09

We met at library after lunch to work on our project. We stayed from 1400 - 1630 till the library was closed. We then proceed to find another good place to work on. The first was 5th RC, however, their study room's very small and is not conducive. Then, I suggested we do at Dataram Kimia, however, they said there arent enough sockets. We end up again in 3rd RC =) haha! We camp in the study room from 1700 - 2130 before heading to Sahur for dinner. Later, Cherlene couldnt take the cold in study room and we proceed to Dewan Makan to continue. From 2130 - 0500 the next day, almost everything was complete. I think I knocked out from 0600 - 0700. I just couldnt open my eyes no matter how hard I tried. By the time I woke up (Muna KO-ed as well), Cherlene and Fatihah were working on how to burn the completed flash into a CD-R as our hardcopy. We tried few times but end up, the videos are not viewable in the CD-R. It was then almost 0900. Fortunately, a friend, Jaylvin, came to our rescue and helped us to burn it into the CD-R. It worked! PRAISE THE LORD~ We did the alpha testing to ensure it worked well, we dont wana come back again and camp to settle it. We tried on each and everyone's laptop and it worked. We havent tried it on other 'fresh' laptop yet. We'll do the beta testing before handing it over to Prof. We're DONE! Finally I can say this. Well, not 100% as there are still reports to submit. But I can handle that. The most difficult parts were completed. The flash works great!

Here, I would like to shout out to my group members, who had toiled and suffered with me in this journey. A BIG thank you to Cherlene for doing a great job with the audios and VR. A BIG terima kasih to Muna for handling the videos and creating the quiz. And lastly, a SUPER BIG thank you to Fatihah, our Multimedia Programmer (and also the ace in this project) for linking up all the pages and perfecting the program languages (which is really tough, mind you!).

Im very sorry for not being the best I could in leading you guys. Im a failure in being the Project Manager in this project, Im being frank, not humble. I dont know much about flash, and all I could helped out was the transportation, and perhaps refreshments to keep you guys awake. I tried finding the special effects but I end up only learning the 'snow effect.' When I witness how bad you guys suffered for the past whole week, I only blame myself for my inadequacy. If I had understoof flash more, I definitely couldve helped out in areas like VR, quizzes, linking etc, but all I did was watch you guys suffer and all I could understand was special effects. Im very sorry for not monitoring you guys and keep pushing to meet deadlines and milestones. Im very thankful that you guys were not mad at me and continue showering me on how well I did as a PM. Thanks. Thats all I can say. Im very fortunate to have you all in this excruciating journey. Day 1=28 hours wihtout sleep. Day 2=23 hours without sleep.

I'll perfect the report myself and wont burden you guys anymore. This is the least I could do. THANKS A BUNCH (you know who you are)!
